We had our Home Study visit performed by Dr. Kenneth N. Brown and his wife Lynn. I’m sure you are familiar with the process and what to expect, but we were not. We were anxious and as prepared as we thought we could be. What happened far exceeded our expectations on all accounts.
Ken and Lynn contacted us on Friday to introduce themselves and to emphasize that they would like to cooperate with us and get our home study visit completed as soon as possible. At the time, we did not know that their weekend was already full of adoption home visit responsibilities. We agreed upon Saturday at a certain time. Little did we know until later that evening, that Ken and Lynn had already gone clear across the state of Florida to first perform a post-placement assessment for another couple, before then coming clear to the other end of the state to then do our home study assessment.
From the moment we welcomed them into our home, we felt at ease and that we were now in the company of friends. Ken and Lynn both exude warmth, knowledge, and a demeanor I can only describe as unassuming. They were prompt, professional, private and compassionate at all times. The home study visit was educational, personal, and effective. What impressed us most was their inept ability to describe our personality traits without asking us direct questions. They were professional, but with a friendly ‘flair’.
At all times, they were outstanding individuals that we now consider our friends. Their love for their work and children was consistently apparent to us. When we did get a match with a birth mother, we also discovered that our home study was expiring and we needed an update. Unfortunately, our match was with a late-term birth mother who was due in a very short amount of time.

Dr. Brown called me back that day and made an appointment to come to my house the following day, which was quite a drive for them. I could not believe it. By the end of the same week I had three copies of the most professional update I've ever seen. Dr. Brown and his wife were so courteous, and made us feel so at ease during the whole process. Dr. Brown - I received a wonderful call last night from Nadia - wow! how wonderful it was to talk to someone who knows adoption and the importance in helping the adoptive parent(s) feel comfortable. She answered all my questions and we spoke at length about the country, the children, me and my decision to change adoption agencies.
